Don't know when I will fit it in with all the books I already have... but someday. I will have to try to find a copy. I have read at least one other Anthony Hope book (CAPTAIN DIEPPE) and it was quite fun as well.

THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL is also immensely fun. I definitely recommend it.

There is a whole sort of subgenre of "Ruritanian" novels, set in imaginary countries with similar plots to THE PRISONER OF ZENDA. Never as good as the original, but sometimes fun. The most famous might be George Barr McCutcheon's Graustark novels (he wrote a ton of them, and also the still mildly well known story BREWSTER'S MILLIONS). I could also recommend PRINCESS MARITZA by Percy Brebner and THE CITY OF LILIES by Anthony Pryde and R. K. Weekes. (But all of these pale next to THE PRISONER OF ZENDA.)Rich Hortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07659613066689174738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7547065615486762917.post-89756112857424726932017-06-09T20:18:56.174-04:002017-06-09T20:18:56.174-04:00I was most pleasantly surprised, Yvette. Always thought the title was farcical, and maybe the book is silly, but if it's anything like Zenda, I'm a convert. Have you ever read THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL by Baroness Orczy? Available for free online. Lots of fun too. And there are sequels - who knew?Yvettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08919246184376538331noreply@blogger.com
